Decline in Infrastructure Support

In discipline on June 8, 2011 at 4:20 pm

A Nature article suggests that there has been (and will continue to be) a dramatic decline in support for infrastructure by the NSF. This seems to affect centers more than specific research programs. But of course it is this infrastructure that often allows specific research programs to be possible. If it continues as predicted, seems like this will have massive implications for certain sectors of the Scientific research community. And of course one solution, as noted in the article, is to pass the cuts on. To increase the fees required to use the infrastructure in the first place. I feel I know more people who study infrastructure than use it directly, I’m curious about how they think this will change science practice.
